Template for legal review
Tailor to the operating organisation and hosting setup before launch. These terms have not been reviewed by a solicitor and should be before the site goes live.
About these terms and who we are
Debt Relief Order (debtrelieforder.org, "the site", "we", "us") is operated by [LAUNCH BLOCKER: legal entity name of the operator], Newcastle upon Tyne [LAUNCH BLOCKER: company number if applicable]. These terms apply to every page of the site, including the eligibility checker and the enquiry form. Our privacy policy and cookie policy form part of them. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the site.
Information only, not advice
The site provides general educational information about Debt Relief Orders in England and Wales and about other debt solutions. It is not, and must not be treated as, debt advice, financial advice, legal advice or any other form of regulated advice. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. We are not an approved intermediary, and we are not the Insolvency Service or any other public body.
Only an approved debt adviser who has reviewed your full circumstances can assess your eligibility for a Debt Relief Order, and whether one is right for you. Nothing on this site is a statement that you qualify, do not qualify, will be approved or will have debts written off. Do not make or avoid any decision on the basis of this site alone. Free, regulated advice is available from the organisations listed on our contact page and in our guide to free debt advice.
Accuracy and currency of information
We take care to check the thresholds, fees and rules we publish against the Insolvency Service's guidance on GOV.UK, as described in our editorial policy. Each page states the guidance date it was checked against. However, the rules for Debt Relief Orders change from time to time and official guidance may be updated without notice. How the rules apply to an individual also depends on facts we do not have.
The site is provided "as is". We do not warrant that its content is accurate, complete, current or suitable for any particular purpose, and we may change or remove content at any time without notice. Always check the current position on GOV.UK and with an approved debt adviser before relying on anything here.
The eligibility checker
The eligibility checker is an educational tool. It compares your answers with the published DRO criteria and indicates which criteria those answers may affect. It is preliminary and indicative only. It does not take account of every rule, cannot verify your answers, does not consider whether another solution might suit you better, and does not produce a determination of any kind.
A result from the checker is not a guarantee that a DRO application will be accepted or refused. It must not be presented to any adviser, creditor or public body as evidence of eligibility. The checker runs entirely in your browser and we hold no record of your use of it.
Links to other websites
The site links to websites operated by others, including GOV.UK and debt advice charities, for your convenience. We do not control those sites, are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and do not endorse any product or service offered on them. Following a link is at your own discretion, and the other site's terms and privacy policy will apply.

Doing so requires our prior written permission. Short quotations with attribution and a link, for criticism, review or news reporting, are permitted. Official material we quote or summarise from GOV.UK remains subject to the Open Government Licence or other applicable terms.
Acceptable use
You agree to use the site only for lawful purposes. You must not attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its hosting infrastructure or any connected system, or introduce malicious code. You must not use automated tools to overload the site or harvest its content. You must not misrepresent the site, its content or its results as your own or as an official source.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all conditions, warranties and representations, express or implied, in relation to the site and its content. We will not be liable for any loss or damage, whether direct, indirect or consequential, arising from your use of or reliance on the site. The same applies to loss arising from any inaccuracy or omission in its content, or from any inability to access it. This includes any loss arising from a decision made, or an application pursued or not pursued, on the basis of information found here.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
Changes to these terms
We may revise these terms at any time by updating this page. The revised terms apply from the date they are published, so please check this page from time to time. These terms were last updated on [LAUNCH BLOCKER: effective date of these terms].
Governing law
